The basic concept underlying this has been that of ‘equity’, the principle that for a similar job done, wages need to be payable equally to women and men. In a scenario where women were discriminated against with respect to pay, there was a strong need to enact legislation that provides them a fair deal and gives them a voice to challenge established norms.
