The Essence

It was found that labourers were increasingly being exposed to the dangers associated with more advanced machinery. Prior to this the employer would only take care of the employee in the event of accidents occuring while traveling to and from work. It made sense to have a mechanism whereby employees could be provided relief without having to go through the time consuming and expensive court process. Hence, the Employees’ Compensation Act

Ensure financial protection to employees and their dependents through compensation in case any accidental injury occurs during employment which results in either death or disablement of the worker, resulting in a loss of income
