Paid time off for adoptive parents
Adoption Leave Policy
the essence
The essence of the adoption leave policy is to provide time off for employees legally adopting a child. The policy typically includes a set amount of paid or unpaid leave to allow employees to bond with their new child and manage the transition into parenthood. Some employers may offer additional benefits such as flexible work arrangements or financial assistance with adoption expenses.
Support for adoptive parents' work-life balance.
Best Practices
# One
P&G India’s Adoption Leave policy enables parents to bond with and transition the new child into the family. The key differentiator in this policy is that the adoption leave is gender-neutral and the primary care giver is eligible for 6 months of paid leave.
# Two
Flipkart pays Rs 50,000 to employees as adoption allowance towards legal, agency and regulatory costs arising out of the process. Adoptive mothers are given the same amount of leave as they would get if they were on Maternity leave (6 months paid leave + 4 months of flexible working hours), and Adoptive fathers are eligible for 6 weeks of paid leave under this program. Additional extended unpaid leave for up to 3 months is also available with assurance of continuity in the same job.
DID YOU KNOW
Humans are not the only ones to adopt. Certain animal species, like the baboon, have been shown to take in infants whose mothers have died. They are cared for by young adults within their social groups.

Let’s face it! HR Policies need to be designed keeping the industry sector, business requirement and the needs of the workforce in mind. A one size fits all approach does not work when it comes to writing a number of policies.
On the other hand, labour laws require that companies adhere to various statutory compliances, but are difficult for the lay person to comprehend. Why stress over them. Leave the heavy lifting to us!
