As industries grew, there was a rising need for proficient craftsman. Industries had the potential to provide training to aspiring craftsmen by serving as fertile training ground for them. In return, companies benefited from having access to this pool of manpower.

Since the nature of employment of apprentices was different from other categories of employees, there was a need to have provisions for their health, protection and welfare. Hence the Apprentices Act
