The Essence

the genesis

This Act pre dates the Indian independence era. Labourers and workers were often not paid in a timely manner and employers were prone to making arbitrary deductions from wages at the time of payment.

This left workers, the oppressed classes, in a most precarious position. There was a need to protect them from such situations so that they had a regular means of sustenance. Hence, the Payment of Wages Act

To avoid unnecessary delay in and inconsistent payment of wages and to prevent arbitrary unauthorized deductions from the wages of employees
