The Essence

This Act pre dates the Indian independence era. Labourers and workers were often not paid in a timely manner and employers were prone to making arbitrary deductions from wages at the time of payment.
This left workers, the oppressed classes, in a most precarious position. There was a need to protect them from such situations so that they had a regular means of sustenance. Hence, the Payment of Wages Act
